I can’t believe a year has already gone by. It has been a fantastic year and I would like to wet the appetite of the ‘Be your dream Promotion’ nominees.
As we all know, International Women’s Day is originally observed worldwide on the 8th of March every year. A day set aside to celebrate women’s economic, political and social achievements. It is also a day of respect, appreciation and love towards women.
Last year, Vlisco decided one day is not enough to celebrate women and so decided to use a whole month to do that. During that period, five women in different industries, who Vlisco thought have made a difference in their world were selected as nominees and showcased for the public to select who inspired them the most.
I won the 2013 ‘Vlisco Be Your Dream Promotion’ and subsequently became the first ever Ghana Vlisco Ambassador for a year. I have been invited for several speaking engagements to inspire women and the youth on several platforms. Getting the opportunity to visit Amsterdam yet again, but this time as an ambassador. You have no idea how we felt, especially accompanied by our spouses and other ambassadors in Africa. It has been a fantastic experience, regarding to be on TV shows, interviews, just name it. Each time I make these appearances, I have had the privilege of having amazing designers create Vlisco outfits for me. I have been unveiled and honored at my village festival – it was awesome. I felt like a chief and I also got to be honored at my Alma Mata; Wesley Girls High School where the girls literally queued up to get my autograph and take pictures with me. It is both exhilarating and humbling
The only downside to this fantastic experience is that I have ….there are lots of copies of Vlisco designs and I am now able to recognize them and get the chance to promote the original Vlisco whenever I can.
As I psyche myself to get ready to hand over to the next Vlisco Ambassador, I wish to congratulate the nominees.- In fact I have a confession to make, it is only when I was privileged to be part of the panel/committee for selecting the next Vlisco Ambassador nominees that I realized how privileged one should feel to be nominated – out of 13million women in Ghana – women who have accomplished so much, we get to be set apart. So winning the award is only the icing on the cake. Enjoy the excitement of the promotion and if your stories inspire even one person, Vlisco would have achieved their objective.
I would like to pay tribute to the Vlisco team in Ghana, Cotonou, and Amsterdam as well as the event organizers, the One Event team for making the Vlisco Ambassador experience just awesome.
May God bless you all!!!
